Gaisce – The President’s Award was delighted to take part in @oxfamireland ’s launch of the Global Education Movement (GEM) in Wexford recently. This groundbreaking initiative aims to strengthen Global Citizenship Education (GCE) across Ireland.
Our CEO, @avril_ryan2024, addressed attendees at the event and highlighted Gaisce’s ongoing commitment to GCE — including our @irish.aid –funded Roots & Shoots programme, delivered in partnership with @student_volunteer.ie in third-level institutions nationwide.

Roots and Shoots: Gaisce Gold Residential Weekend 1 took over Ratra House in the Phoenix Park from 9 to 11 January, bringing young people together from Meath, Roscommon, Offaly, Dublin, and Westmeath for workshops and activities inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Gold Residential is where comfort zones get stretched, confidence grows, and connections happen fast.

🙌 We loved welcoming this brilliant group of young people to Gaisce HQ at the weekend, to kick off the Roots and Shoots: Gaisce Gold Residential.
It marked the beginning of 2️⃣ weekends of Global Citizenship, team bonding and workshops, supporting participants as they work towards their Gaisce Gold Award.
💡Roots and Shoots: A Higher Education Global Citizenship Initiative is a collaboration between Gaisce – The President’s Award and Student Volunteer Ireland, funded by Irish Aid.
👏 We could not deliver this without our wonderful partners: STAND.ie, Trócaire, Financial Justice Ireland, and the ESD Academy at ATU who support participants to explore the Sustainable Development Goals, social activism, and the local and global impact of volunteering.
😊 As you can see, it was a highly immersive, thought-provoking, and collaborative weekend. Well done to all! 🎉
